Flex Application Engineer

Description:
This is a senior development role at Mixbook, a profitable, rapidly-growing startup that is changing the game in the personalized photo books / photo products market. In the past, the standard applications for creating photo book products limited users to strict templates and few options. Mixbook has created a powerful and intuitive Flex application that allows users to fully express their creativity with stickers and backgrounds, fully-editable layouts and photo editing features. Despite the breakthroughs that Mixbook has made, the team that works on it is still tiny, and you will have a huge impact on the product.

The Ideal Profile:
This is not your typical Flex programming role – Mixbook is a complex Flex application with many highly technical components. We are looking for someone who is a well-rounded computer scientist in addition to an expert Flex developer. This would be demonstrated by a CS degree, knowledge of more traditional programming environments, or projects which show deep engineering ability. We love to see candidates who have worked on impressive Flash applications that they can demonstrate for us. We favor candidates who can show us they have a keen product sense and will contribute good ideas for improving the product.

Role:
- Launch new features and improvements to Mixbook’s core flex platform application, the Mixbook Creator.
- Develop and improve Mixbook’s flash widgets for viewing and sharing photo products.
- Balance innovative new features with performance and speed for optimal user experience.
- Think creatively about the future of Mixbook, generate feature ideas, and implement them.

Qualifications:
- Passion for building a great product that everyone will love – your friends and family will be in awe.
- Experience with Flex Builder and Actionscript 3.
- Very strong object-oriented development skills (Java, C++, etc).
- 5+ years development experience.
- Strong communication skills - if you have a problem with something, you speak up.
- Extremely hard working. This is a start-up – long hours should be afraid of you because you own them.
- Thrive on working with A-players. You’re too good to spend long hours with B-players.
- Familiar with unit testing, design patterns and component lifecycle development.
- B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent.
